My Husband Thinks I’m Nuts

It isn’t even Halloween and I have just spent this past week getting ready for Christmas. I’m not sure if I’m crazy or just uptight, but I am definitely determined. I am determined not to be last minute gift shopping or wrapping presents on Christmas Eve and to be in total control of the impending chaos. Lofty goals I agree and something I know my stubborn personality won’t let go, so I forge on dragging along with me some poor souls who after a week really know I’m uptight. And based on the eye rolls coming from my husband’s corner on the couch, I know he thinks I’m nuts, but after 17 years of marriage is wise enough to not say anything. After all, all he contributes to the Christmas preparations is to veto any “new and weird” ideas, request that I only ask for things that can be bought online, and hang the lighted wreath outside (and refuse to take it down after half of the lights have burnt out).
So humor, eye rolls, and smart remarks aside, this is what I accomplished this past week in my quest for a Frazzle Free Christmas:
- Made a list of everyone I need to buy a gift for this year.
- Finalized most of my Thanksgiving plans. Still waiting on two friends to get back to me on one thing, but knowing that one of them doesn’t know how to check email and the other is a self proclaimed disorganized person I will probably have to pick up the phone and call them.
- Set our holiday spending budget (this is never a pleasant task)
- Discussed with the family which family traditions to keep and which to toss.
- Completely updated our family calendar through December.
- Started a Christmas “buy” list with things I will need to get this year (wrapping paper, batteries, tape, etc)
What’s That Smell?

Well, it has been two weeks and we still haven’t found the missing sippy cup full of milk…The good news though is that there still isn’t a smell. We have looked under every bed, chair, and couch in the house. We have even pulled the cushions off the couch and reluctantly stuck our hands down inside the couch trying to find this missing cup. Only to find 3 month old stale popcorn, a Polly Pocket shoe, lip gloss with no lid, and spare change. Normally I wouldn’t be so worried about a missing sippy cup, but in this case we know it to be filled with milk when it was lost. And for two weeks to pass and still no smell only means that it is buried deep in some corner, toy box, or crevice in my house. My only hope is that I find it before my 2 year old does…the thought of her trying to drink it makes me very concerned….
Oh well, I’ll keep looking, it has to turn up sometime. Right?
P.S. Did I fail to mention that this cup was lost while I was out for the evening and my husband was in charge? I’m not blaming….just stating the facts…..
